Avro Canada CF-100 Canuck
The Avro Canada CF-100 Canuck was a two-seat, all-weather jet interceptor designed and built in Canada by A.V. Roe Canada Ltd., and the only Canadian-designed fighter to enter mass production. First flown on 19 January 1950 and powered by Canadian Orenda turbojets, it was built to a total of 692 aircraft. Canucks defended North America under NORAD and served with NATO in Europe, and 53 were sold to Belgium, the type's only export customer. Known to its crews as the "Clunk", it ended its career as an electronic warfare trainer, the last example retiring in 1981.
Avro Canada CF-105 Arrow
The Avro Canada CF-105 Arrow was a two-seat, delta-wing supersonic interceptor built by A.V. Roe Canada at Malton, Ontario, to defend North America against Soviet bombers crossing the Arctic. Developed from 1953 and first flown on 25 March 1958, it used fly-by-wire controls and flew on interim engines while its Canadian Orenda Iroquois was readied. Five aircraft flew before the federal government cancelled the programme on 20 February 1959 and ordered the completed aircraft and records destroyed; no complete example survives.
